Translate is a photo and voice translator built for travel, signage, and the moments when you do not have a working data connection. Snap a picture of a menu, a sign, a label, or a page in a foreign language, and the app extracts the text with on-device OCR, runs it through your downloaded language model, and overlays the translation on the original image. The same flow works on voice: hold the microphone, speak, and the translation arrives in your language; a playback button then reads the translated sentence aloud in the target language so you can hold the phone out to a taxi driver or shopkeeper and let them hear the question before you try to pronounce it yourself. The translation engine runs locally after a small per-language model is downloaded, so once the languages you need are installed the app works fully without internet — on the subway, on a plane, in a country where roaming is expensive. The library of supported languages covers most major markets, and a per-language indicator shows the model size on disk so you know exactly what each download costs before you tap it; models can be removed and re-downloaded at any time to free storage. The interface is available in fourteen languages, the core translator is free with a generous monthly quota, and a Pro subscription removes the quota and unlocks batch image translation. Translate does not upload your photos or your voice: OCR happens on the device, translation happens on the device, and only the model download itself touches the network.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the app really work offline?
Yes. After the first time you translate between a given language pair, the App downloads the on-device model from Google and caches it locally. From then on, both OCR and translation run on your iPhone without any network call.
Is my photo data uploaded to any server?
No. The App uses Apple Vision for OCR and Google ML Kit on-device models for translation. Your photos and translated text are processed in memory on your device and never uploaded to any server we operate. The only network call related to translation is the initial model download from Google.
Why is the first translation slow?
The first time you translate between a given pair of languages, the App needs to download the translation model from Google. Models are typically 10 to 50 MB and download once. Subsequent translations of the same pair are instant and offline.
Which languages are supported?
The App supports more than 50 languages, including English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian and many more. The full list is shown in the language picker inside the App.
How do I restore my subscription on a new device?
Sign in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase the subscription, then open the App's Settings and tap "Restore Purchases". Your ad-free entitlement will be restored automatically.
How do I delete my translation history?
Open the App's Settings and choose "Clear History". You can clear all entries at once, or swipe individual translations to delete them. Uninstalling the App also removes all stored history.
