Paper Scan is a professional document scanner for iPhone that turns stacks of paper into clean, searchable PDFs without sending a single page to the cloud. The capture window uses the ultra-wide lens so a full A4 page fits edge to edge without distortion; six GPU-accelerated filters — Magic, Enhanced, Grayscale, B&W, Original, and Photo — handle everything from a faded receipt to a colour magazine page; on-device OCR detects the source language automatically and extracts the text from every page, then indexes it inside the PDF so any word is searchable later in the language it was written in. Multi-page documents are assembled automatically, named and dated, saved into organised folders, and can be reordered or have pages removed before export if a stray cover sheet slipped into the batch. The export step writes a PDF or a per-page image bundle to the Files app, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or any other cloud target your device supports, and the export flow includes a conflict resolver so two scans of the same document never overwrite each other. Every operation — capture, filter, OCR, assembly, export — runs locally, with no account and no upload. The interface is available in fourteen languages, the scanner and PDF export are free, and Pro adds cloud sync, batch OCR, and removes ads. Does Paper Scan work without an internet connection?
Yes. Scanning, filters, OCR and PDF export all run on your device and need no network at all. The only feature that uses the internet is optional cloud sync, and it stays off until you turn it on.
Where are my scans stored?
In the app's private storage on your iPhone. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you enable Google Drive or iCloud sync, in which case copies go only to your own account.
How accurate is the OCR?
It uses Apple's Vision text recognition, which handles clean printed documents very reliably. Good lighting and a flat page make the biggest difference; handwriting and heavily stylised fonts are less reliable.
Can I sync between my iPhone and iPad?
Yes, with Paper Scan Pro. Turn on iCloud sync and your documents appear on every device signed in to the same Apple ID. Google Drive sync works the same way across devices signed in to that Google account.
What happens if I edit the same document on two devices?
Sync resolves it without creating duplicates. Each page carries its own revision marker, so the newest edit for that page wins and your local changes are never silently overwritten while you are working.
