A Practical Guide to Exporting and Backing Up Timesheets
Three months of records, then a lost or replaced phone — everything gone. That is the shared risk of everyone who keeps their timesheet only on their phone. Export and backup solve the problem, with plenty of immediate benefits too.
Why Export
- Pay verification: sending the timesheet to your employer, or matching it against your payslip, beats an oral check;
- Evidence: in a labor dispute, day-by-day clock records are strong supporting material;
- Data analysis: exported data can be analyzed further in spreadsheet software;
- Device migration: restore from a backup in one step instead of starting over.
Choosing Among Three Formats
- CSV: the most universal, for importing into Excel, Numbers, and other tools;
- PDF: fixed layout, for printing or showing to someone directly;
- Excel: the most complete, with an overtime breakdown worksheet covering tiered overtime and night-shift items — ideal for careful checks.
Files can be shared directly after exporting. Exporting is a Pro feature.
The Right Way to Back Up
Back up all data regularly, and save the file to cloud storage or a computer via sharing — the copy on the phone plus one elsewhere is what counts as safe. Restoring simply selects the backup file. You keep the backup files yourself; nothing is uploaded to any server.
