Some photos you want to keep — but not at their original size. A 6 MB panorama of last summer's hike, a high-res scan of an old document, a portrait you like but rarely reopen. Image Compression shrinks these files so they take up a fraction of the space while remaining visually identical.

Pick the size, see the savings

Open an image, choose a target — smaller file, balanced, or near-original quality — and the compression screen shows the current size and the projected size side by side. You see the trade-off before you commit, and the decision is yours.

Resize and recompress in one pass

The screen lets you cap the longest edge at a chosen resolution. Photos already at or below that resolution are recompressed only; photos above it are resized and then recompressed. Either way, you end up with a single new version that is dramatically lighter.

Save where you choose

Compressed images can be saved back to the same album or to a new one, depending on whether you want to replace the original or keep both. The original is only replaced after you confirm.

Runs entirely on your device

Compression happens locally using on-device image processing. The photo is never uploaded for compression, and the new version is written directly to your library. No account, no server round-trip, no quality loss from re-encoding over a network.
